Outstanding trio of tickets commemorating the final game at Philadelphia's Connie Mack Stadium in 1970 as well as the first game at Philadelphia's Veterans Stadium in 1971. Connie Mack Stadium originally known as Shibe Park was opened in April of 1909 baseball's first steel and concrete stadium. The stadium was home to the Philadelphia Athletics and in 1938 became the home of the Phillies as well. Renamed Connie Mack Stadium in 1953 the Athletics vacated the park in 1955 and ultimately after much political wrangling arrangements were made for the city of Philadelphia to build a new park for the Phillies. The final game at Connie Mack Stadium was played on October 1 1970 the Phillies defeating the Montreal Expos 2-1 in extra innings. Sadly postgame ceremonies were disrupted by souvenir-hunting fans dismantling the stadium while the game was still in progress. "The Vet" was a multi-purpose stadium that would host both the Phillies and the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles as well as other large entertainment events. The dedication ceremony occurred on April 4 a week before the stadium's Opening Day. The first Phillies game at the new Veterans Stadium - also against the Expos - was played on Saturday April 10 1971. The Phils won that game by a 4-1 margin behind the pitching of future Hall of Famer Jim Bunning who pitched 7 1/3 innings. Presented are full tickets from both games as well as the ticket for the Veterans Stadium Dedication Ceremonies. The Connie Mack Stadium ticket is a full ticket in NMT condition with absolutely splendid appearance. The Dedication Ceremony ticket presents in EX condition with some very mild corner wear. The Opening Day ticket is a full ticket in fair condition with some discoloration from clear tape on the reverse and some very mild surface staining on the front with eye appeal much greater than the technical condition.
