Tyrus Raymond Cobb, the Georgia Peach poses for photographers on the top step of his dugout in this important Type I photograph. Captured sometime between 1924-25 at Yankee Stadium, this newly discovered example is an alternate pose from one of Cobb's most well known images, one that inspired renowned sports artist Graig Kreindler's original oil on canvas work depicting the all-time-great center fielder during his time as player/manger for the Detroit Tigers (an original Type I photo featuring that iconic image may be found elsewhere in this auction). Measuring a full 8" x 10", this is the first original example of this photo to ever surface in the hobby as far as we're aware. Two white borders flank Cobb as he looks to his left with other members of his Detroit Tigers milling about in the background. Photo has remained extremely well preserved over the course of a century in storage, with typical light handling wear and an obvious crease to the lower-left corner. Credit stamping from Wide World has been applied at center of verso with two paper captions affixed along the bottom edge. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
