Interesting collection of eight original magic lantern slides from the Frank W. Smith estate. Five of the presented slides feature Cleveland-based photographers, with one depicting Cleveland Naps players, another showing a newsroom scene, and what appears to be college football action is presented on the final slide. While undated, it's likely all examples hail from c.1914 consistent with previous slides we've sold from the same stunning collection. Excellent condition across this group, with black paper borders surrounding the 3.25" x 4" translucent slides remaining largely intact. Clean and fully intact glass surfaces will allow for beautiful presentation of the central images.

Included (from L to R, top to bottom): 1) An incredible discovery - Cleveland Press photographer Louis Van Oeyen stands with his camera at center, flanked by longtime Cleveland Plain Dealer photographer Andy Kraffert to his right, and Dan Rollins of the Cleveland News to his left. Van Oeyen's original photos are highly sought after by collectors of Deadball Era photography but images of the man himself, especially in his prime with his camera are virtually nonexistent. 2) 1914 Cleveland Naps players Nemo Leibold, Steve O'Neill, and Jack Graney stand with Larry the dog, presumably during their trip south to spring training in Athens, GA. 3) Cleveland Plan Dealer staff photographer Andy Kraffert stands with another photographer and their equipment. 4) Louis Van Oeyen (kneeling left), Andy Kraffert (kneeling right), and Dan Rollins (standing) pose at a ballpark with a coach and scoreboard behind them. 5) A photographer demonstrates how camera operates 6) A photographer sets up a shot with his camera while an inscription reading "A little action please" has been applied to left of the image. This slide is consistent with others we've sold that were known to have been shot at the Naps camp in Athens, GA during spring training. 7) Two men sit in what appears to be a newsroom. The man on the left is possibly Louis Van Oeyen, though we cannot confirm. 8) Football action during what appears to be a college football game. All eight slides originate from the estate of former Cleveland Plain Dealer staff photographer Frank W. Smith, who traveled with the Cleveland Naps to their spring facilities for many years during the 1910's.
