Tremendous original Type 1 news service photo featuring members of the 1918 New York Giants at spring training in Marlin Springs, TX. Sixteen members of the team and/or hopefuls are present in the image, including 18 year old Waite Hoyt (third from left, top row) who would only ever appear in a single game for Giants before embarking on a Hall of Fame career. Hoyt is most remembered for his time with the New York Yankees from 1921-30 where he helped the Bombers capture three World Series titles in 1923, 1927, and 1928. Photo measures 8" x 10" with chipping evident to the top corners and remnants of tape affixed along the bottom border. A significant amount of white editorial masking has been applied around the player's heads in the top row and extreme right and left sides. Verso includes paper caption identifying all players depicted, including the obscure Doc Swigler who only logged a single major league appearance. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA.
