From the classic 1940 Play Ball set made up of 240 active players and past legends, the higher number cards are more scarce. The controversial "Shoeless Joe" Jackson, card #225, is presented here in a solid PSA 6. Anything "Shoeless Joe"-related typically stops baseball historians and collectors in their tracks, and this card is no exception. Note on the back of this card that it only mentions Jackson "stopped playing" after the 1920 season, with no mention of the Black Sox scandal of 1919. The card carries a grade of EX 5, well centered for the issue, which is often found with cards that are borderline miscut due to the pair of rule lines surrounding the image. Some light toning is evident, with minor corner wear also contributing to the grade. Still, an exceptional example of a card memorializing Jackson as one of the game's legendary names.
