Charles Ruley "Tod" Brynan played three of his four career games in major league baseball for the 1888 Chicago Cubs. He went 2-1, striking out 11, but gave up 26 runs on 29 hits in just 25 innings pitched. Even still, he was rewarded with five different cards in the N172 set. This version depicts the hurler ready to pitch with his right hand neck high.

The contrast of this image is beautiful, allowing the viewer to notice details such as the padding in the knees of Brynan's uniform pants, or the thickness and weight of the material in his belt. Some light paper loss along the left edge and some chipping along the top keep this card from grading higher than it already has, but the technical grade on an N172 with this level of visual appeal is irrelevant.

PSA has only graded eight total examples of this 1887 N172 Old Judge, with only one receiving a higher grade than the GOOD 2 offered here.
