Charles G. "Charlie" Buffinton (incorrectly labeled here as "Buffington") was a pitcher, outfielder, and first baseman for 11 seasons. From 1887 through 1889, he played for the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League, winning 77 games in those three seasons before winning another 19 for the Philadelphia Quakers of the Players League the following year.
Buffinton is featured in three different poses in
the N172 set. Despite playing only 24 games in the outfield over the course of his time in Philadelphia, he is labeled here as a centerfielder, this card depicting him ready to bat with his bat at a 30-degree angle.
From rounded corners and light staining on the front, to a pinhole through the bottom center and some ink stains on the back, this card does have some condition issues. However, it still has plenty of eye appeal, with the image clearly visible and the text legible. One of only two SGC-graded examples.
