Thomas Tarlton Brown played 17 years of Major League baseball. 1891 was his best year, in which he led the American Association in runs, hits, triples, at bats, stolen bases, and total bases for the Boston Reds. From 1885 through 1887, he was an outfielder for Allegheny City (aka Pittsburg, without the H), for whom he is depicted on this card. Brown has four poses in the N172 set, with this 1886-87 script series card being quite an attractive and higher-grade specimen.

Centering is exceptional, despite some faint diamond cutting on this higher-grade specimen. Lightly rounded top corners and some minor edge chipping in one spot along the left edge keep this example from grading higher than it already has. The contrast is great, and the bold printing still allows the image to pop, even after 135 years. While the back has some insignificant staining, it doesn't affect the front, and the scarcity of this example far outweighs any technical issues.  This is the only example of this 1887 N172 Old Judge which PSA has ever graded.
