Beautiful postcard of Olympian Jim Thorpe, one of the greatest of all American athletes, in his track and field uniform for the 1912 Olympics. In 1912, Thorpe competed in two Olympic events - the Pentathlon and the Decathlon. He won Gold Medals for both, and in addition to receiving the medals won two prizes which were donated by King Gustav of Sweden and Czar Nicholas II of Russia. When Thorpe was presented with his prize by King Gustav, Gustav told Thorpe "You, sir, are the greatest athlete in the world." Thorpe famously responded "Thanks, King." This tremendous example was graded EX-MT 6 by PSA, due to some very light corner touches, an otherwise tremendous appearance, with a clean image and sharp edges. The only example graded by PSA at this level, just two cards - both graded NM-MT - have been graded higher by the company. Simply an outstanding postcard, one of the finest known.
