Produced in 1912 and labeled as being from "Plow's Candy Collection," the E300 set is an enigma to collectors, with very little known about it. Collectors do immediately recognize the beauty of these cards, as well as their extreme rarity. Each 3" x 4" card features a sepia toned player photo, and a blank back. The set is rare enough that the checklist is considered incomplete, with new additions discovered every few years. SGC has graded just 45 examples, with PSA 136 more, a testament to the difficulty of finding cards from the issue. The cards are condition-sensitive, due to their larger format and thin card stock.
Presented here is a beautiful, high-grade example featuring Athletics infielder Jack Barry. Well-centered and clean, light corner touches reduce the grade slightly but certainly do not detract from the card's tremendous eye appeal. The E300 set is one of the most rare of all caramel issues, highly prized in any condition among advanced hobbyists. A higher-grade example featuring a popular player, a white whale for many type collectors.
