The 1937 World Series was a near repeat from the previous year as the A.L. Champion Yankees once again beat the N.L. Champion Giants, this time by taking the best-of-seven series in five games. Southpaw hurler Lefty Gomez recorded victories in Games 1 and 5, while Joe DiMaggio (six hits, four RBI), Lou Gehrig (five hits, three RBI) and Bill Dickey (four hits, three RBI) provided the offense. This lot features a publication called World Series for 1937, which shows a young Joe DiMaggio in black-and-white on the cover swinging through at the plate. Inside are articles about baseball including one entitled “Babe as a Series Pitcher” that recounts Babe Ruth’s outstanding performances on the mound before he became the “Sultan of Swat.” The cover exhibits some heavy toning and wear along the edges, particularly at the top, and inside pages are all in remarkably good condition.
