In the 1938 World Series, the two-time defending champion New York Yankees swept the N.L. Champion Chicago Cubs in four straight games. The Bronx Bombers were led by catcher Bill Dickey and second sacker Joe Gordon, both of whom batted .400 for the series (6-for-15). On the mound, Red Ruffing paced New York by registering two complete game victories while racking up 11 strikeouts over 18 innings. This lot features an official 1938 World Series Yankees vs. Cubs Program from that matchup, which includes a cover illustration painted by Grant Powers showing a pitcher in full windup in front of a silhouetted home-plate assemblage of a hitter, catcher and umpire. Despite some soiling and toning on the cover, along with the telltale signs of a long-ago vertical fold, the program remains in good condition.
