In the 1936 World Series, the A.L. Champion New York Yankees defeated the N.L. Champion New York Giants, four games to two. It marked the Bronx Bombers fifth championship in eight trips to the Fall Classic. A 21-year-old rookie by the name of Joe DiMaggio led New York’s offense by collecting nine hits, while veterans Lou Gehrig (seven hits, seven RBI) and Tony Lazzeri (five hits, seven RBI) also helped cement the title. This lot features an official World Series Program from that meeting, which depicts an illustrated at-bat by artist Grant Powers with the Buffalo nickel, which was still being struck by the U.S. Mint up until 1938, positioned in front of the New York skyline. Despite its age, the cover and inside pages – with player scorecards showing – remain in good condition with some light wear and staining, notably along the bottom.
