Take a step back in time with this baseball-related tintype image that shows four youngsters (three girls and one boy) circa 1880 dressed in period garb with the young man holding a baseball bat. A tintype is a photo made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal, colloquially called tin, coated with a dark lacquer or enamel and used as the support for the photographic emulsion. Tintypes enjoyed their widest use during the late 1800’s, but lesser use of the medium persisted into the early 20th century and it has been revived as a novelty and fine art form in the 21st century. The tintype photo measures approx. 2.25" wide by 3.5" high and remains clear despite its 140-plus years in existence.
