Outstanding oversized photo measuring 10 1/2" x 12" picturing Ted Williams during 1956 Spring Training in Sarasota. The photo appears in outstanding condition in the main field of vision though the edges do exhibit considerable wear in the form of creasing and small edge tears. Editorial stamps and markings on the reverse date the photo and credit George Silk the Life magazine stampings clear on the reverse. George Silk was a photojournalist with Life for 30 years beginning his career as a combat cameraman for the Australian government in 1939. He covered World War II on the Italian front stayed with US forces during the Battle of the Bulge and was wounded by a grenade. He took the first photos in Nagasaki after the atomic bomb was dropped. He was named magazine photographer of the year four times by the National Press Photographer's Association. An outstanding photograph of an engaging subject taken by a well-respected photojournalist.
