Occasionall a photo crosses our desk that is so striking that we must offer it in the auction regardless of its value. This spectacular 8" x 10" photo was taken during a July 26 1949 game between the Yankees and the White Sox when a young fan ran out onto the field to obtain the autograph of Joe DiMaggio. The caption in the slug which is still attached to the back of the photo reads as follows: Far afield for Dimag's autograph New York....Eluding several attendants this unidentified small fy fan managed to reach Joe DiMaggio in the outfield during the nightcap of the Yank-Whitesox duet. He persuaded her Joe who had hit two homers to autograph his book. Joe obliges. Photo by Art Abfier (E-7-26-48) The photo is simply wonderful the photographer electing to keep DiMaggio and the young fan in the right edge of the photo off-center helping to convey the open expanse of outfield and how the young fan pointing off into the distance seems in awe of the situation. DiMaggio appears to be leaned over the youngster signing his autograph. The photo is in FAIR condition with considerable wwrinkling and cracking to the photographic emulsion particularly in the corners. There appears to be some sort of stain in the bottom-left as well. The image itself however is clear and sharp DiMaggio's uniform number 5 visible a wonderful composition that speaks to our Love of the Game. Guaranteed Type 1 with PSA/DNA.
