Between 1982 and 1985 Cracker Jack sponsored an "Old Timer's Classic " which was played at RFK Stadium in Washington DC. The brainchild of Atlanta Braves VP Dick Cecil the premise was to stage an authentic five-inning game that pitted old-timers against one another a more competitive game than the Old Timers exhibitions put on by many teams. The games were televised on ESPN and each player received $1 000 plus travel expenses for participating. The games got off to an auspicious start in 1982 when 75-year-old Luke Appling connected off Warren Spahn for a headline-making 275-foot home run over the fence in left field. Sadly the games did not have the support of Major League Baseball and so instead of using individual team logos and uniforms the organizers designed special American and National League uniforms for the players to wear. Presented here is the uniform jersey and undershirt worn by Hall of Famer Frank Robinson likely in the 1985 game. Rawlings size 42 jersey with rawlings XL undershirt Robinson's name is applied to the nameplate on the reverse above his number 20. The Cracker Jack patch appears on the right sleeve. Robinson signed the jersey on the right breast in blue fiber-tip marker. A tremendous memento of a long-past classic Old Timer's game that celebrated the greats.
