Attractive official program for the 1937 All-Star game the fifth in history this one at Griffith Stadium in Washington DC. This game was a legendary one for all the wrong reasons as this is the game when Earl Averill hit a line drive that broke Dizzy Dean's toe. Dean would alter his delivery so that he could pitch with the injury and in doing so would injure his arm and shorten his career. That aside there were an astonishing 21 players in uniform at this game who would ultimately wind up in the Hall of Fame: Dean and Averill Gabby Hartnett Johnny Mize Billy Herman Arky Vaughan Ducky Medwick Paul Waner Carl Hubbell Ernie Lombardi Mel Ott Lefty Gomez Bill Dickey Lou Gehrig Charlie Gehringer Joe Cronin Joe DiMaggio Lefty Grove Rick Ferrell Jimmie Foxx and Hank Greenberg. Add Hall of Fame managers Bill Terry and Joe McCarthy. An incredible assortment of stars played in this game which was won by the American league 8-3 with a home run by Lou Gehrig. The unscored program does exhibit some minor wear at the edges corners and staples but still displays quite well an early document of one of the game's first All-Star games.
