Toward the middle of his final major league season Giants third baseman Heinie Zimmerman went 4-for-9 in a doubleheader sweep of the Phillies on July 7. Warming up outside the team dugout at some point during the day Zimmerman was photographed by George Grantham Bain the result of which is seen in this beautiful Type 1 photograph. Interestingly Zimmerman seems to have removed a ball-shaped section of the palm of his glove a practice we are learning was not uncommon among players of this era. In excellent condition the photo's number and player name appear at the top with player info date and Bain stamp on the reverse. Zimmerman finished a 13-year career with a .295 lifetime batting average drilling 14 home runs in his 1912 season in which he batted .372. An excellent photo of a very underrated player.
