Spectacular 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" original Underwood & Underwood news service photo depicting Babe Ruth in the uniform of the New York Giants. Hall of Fame Manager John McGraw could only imagine how the presence of Ruth in the Giants lineup may have improved his legendary managerial career as Ruth donned the uniform to play in an October benefit game against the International League's Baltimore Orioles. Ruth hit a home run in the 9-3 New York win and came out of the game in the fifth inning nursing an injured ankle. Ruth's Yankees would go on to defeat McGraw's Giants in the 1923 World Series 4 games to 2. The photo is in outstanding condition though the attached slug does exhibit some wear. The Underwood & Underwood stamps are visible on the reverse. While the photo does present wonderfully the "File Copy - Do Not Remove" stamp is embossed into the image itself at both the top and bottom of the photo. Still an outstanding example of a long-forgotten exhibition that teamed two legendary Hall of Famers with one another just days before they would become opponents in the World Series.
