Spectacular 8 1/8" x 10" original news service photo depicting the Yankee Stadium grandstand as taken on opening day of the 1923 season - the first game between the Yankees and Red Sox. The photo was taken during game action as players are clearly visible on the field and while magnification does not enable us to identify individual players in the photo the game's boxscore makes it clear that Bob Shawkey is on the mound and Wally Pipp is at first base. The Stadium is handsomely decorated with bunting a Yankee Stadium tradition that continues today in important games. The legendary Stadium facade is also visible around the top of the grandstand.
