Wisconsin-based manufacturer Hartland Plastics was the first company to manufacture licensed sports figurines. Originally produced in 1958 the first series of figures were constructed from plastic resin and then hand-painted. The figures were sold at stadiums throughout the country and included included some of the game's top players. In 1960 ten additional players were produced followed by a Little Leaguer (eventually called the "batboy") and a minor leaguer. Each of the statues were sold for $2 and are obviously worth far more today. Presented here is a complete set of the 18 major league statues plus the Little Leaguer. They each appear to be in EX to VG-EX condition with very little yellowing of the plastic resin. Of course there are some slight condition issues - the Killebrew statue has been re-glued to the home plate base and has come loose. The Rocky Colavito statue has come apart from its toe plate. One plastic bat is missing and some of the others have been bent slightly over years of use. All the statues stand on their own though Colavito and Ruth need a considerable amount of help. The set does not include tags or boxes but remains an outstanding collectible a complete set that includes lovely representations of the issue's rarities (including the Groat). Original Hartland statues are among the hobby's most beloved and beautiful collectibles documenting a period in the game's history that produced some of its greatest players ever.
