Tremendous collection of three significant tickets/stubs marking the final season of the Philadelphia Athletics before moving west at the end of the 1954 season. The collection includes: 1) Opening Day ticket stub. April 13 pitted the hometown A's against the Boston Red Sox a game ultimately won by the Athletics despite a late rally from Boston. Star pitcher Bobby Shantz received the win in five innings but would pitch just three more innings that season due to arm injury. The stub is in outstanding condition with a minor blemish at the perforation the more noticeable wear occurring with paper loss on the reverse in the same area. 2) Closing Day ticket stub. September 26 1954 saw the A's defeating the Yankees by an 8-6 margin at Yankee Stadium behind the pitching of Art Ditmar. The lower box seat stub is in poor condition but displays quite well a single hole punch through the center along with some edge wear and some writing on reverse the chief culprits responsible for the grade. 3) Closing Day full ticket. Unused Yankee Stadium reserved seat ticket displays in EX-MT condition despite some minor pencil writing on the reverse that detracts from the technical grade. Despite this an outstanding ticket an unused ticket from the final Philadelphia Athletics game. Three outstanding tickets commemorating the final year of one of the game's most lauded franchises.
