Notable grouping of 52 original snapshot photographs from the personal collection of George "Shotgun" Shuba. These historic images of both the Brooklyn Dodgers and members of their Triple-A affiliate, the Montreal Royals, were captured in the spring of 1947 as both teams trained in Havana, Cuba prior to the season. Nearly all included snapshots depict Dodgers and Royals players that are easily identifiable and/or include handwritten ID's added to their front surface. Significantly, Jackie Robinson is visible in two of the images, standing in street clothes alongside world heavyweight champion Joe Louis who also appears in two additional examples. Robinson famously shattered professional baseball's color line the previous spring, debuting for the International League's Montreal Royals at New Jersey's Roosevelt Stadium on April 18, 1946. Still in camp with Montreal when these images were captured, Jackie would be promoted to the Dodgers just prior to the regular season, integrating Major League Baseball on Opening Day, April 15, 1947, at Ebbets Field.

All but two of the included snapshots measure approx. 4" x 5" with general handling wear scattered across the group, appearing mostly in the form of visible light creasing and corner damage. Some degree of fading impacts several of the images, though this is potentially a result of the photos being underdeveloped in a darkroom setting. Easily identifiable Dodgers in uniform, or participating in baseball activities, include: Bruce Edwards, Carl Furillo (2), Gene Hermanski, Pee Wee Reese, Howie Schultz (2), Ed Stevens, Dixie Walker (2). Royals players, several of whom would eventually be promoted to the big club, include: Toby Atwell, Jack Banta (2), Roy Campanella (terrific pre-rookie shot of Campy), Spider Jorgensen, Turk Lown, Don Lund (2) Homer Matney, Dave Pluss, George Shuba (5). 52 snapshots total.
