A fearsome slugger, Hank Greenberg's 1941 Play Ball card caught him during the same season he ended up playing for Uncle Sam, as he was inducted into the Army on May 8th. Discharged at the tail end of the same year, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps the day after Pearl Harbor and didn't see the inside of a major league ballpark again until 1945.

Displaying a pleasing yellow-green background, this is a wonderfully sharp card, a beautiful NM-MT example, with just four graded higher by PSA. Though the image is centered slightly to the Southwest, the design of the issue creates the illusion of better centering due to the white banner at the bottom border. As a result, the card presents incredibly well, a beautiful example of one of the most important players of his era, a civil rights icon, and a Hall of Famer.
