Cuban catcher Julio Rojo appears in Negro League and winter league records for over 20 years, joining a select group of players that includes Martin Dihigo as veterans of so many seasons. He continued coaching into the 1950s, with his official work ending a few years before he passed in 1958. It's fair to say few players were as familiar to local fans as Julio.
The SGC VG-EX+ 4.5 grade reflects excellent centering and strong main image, with slight corner rounding and marks along its lower front half. Reverse shows a slight print tilt. Cards from this 1923-24 set often show handling damage when left unprotected, so most mid-grade examples stand out as the best known from what survives today. The cards were issued with a redemption offer where a complete set could be exchanged for an album, which may account for the rarity of these cards. Just six such cards appear on the combined SGC/PSA population reports, with none graded higher! Love of the Game is proud to offer several of this Cuban set's top cards.
