The Exhibit Supply Company printed 64 different players for this postcard-sized set in 1928, including a wide range of Hall of Famers whose top name remains Babe Ruth. The Bambino looms large over his whole era and comes fresh off lighting up American League pitchers for a legendary 60 homers in 1927. It’s hard to pick a more iconic year for any hitter than this stat sheet of long bombs and a 1.258 OPS. (His 165 RBIs finished second to teammate Lou Gehrig’s astounding 173, and each of them finished 45+ RBIs ahead of third place.)
This lithe, athletic post-swing pose reminds you that Babe’s robust frame excelled at every facet of the game before age caught up with him! These Exhibits offer far more detailed player photos than most others of their era, making them desirable as both collectibles and display pieces.
Exhibit Co. printed players in deep blue tones on thick card stock and sometimes added a postcard layout to the backs, with address and stamp locations. This blank back shows a tiny swirl that appears to be someone testing their pen, which explains the MK qualifier by PSA, without detracting from Ruth’s own clean front image. Its PSA GD 2 reflects rounded, somewhat chipped corners and edge toning from normal handling. Its population report shows just 26 total graded, so it will be tough to find in any presentable form, let alone one with such a clean front picture of Ruth.
