Beautiful and perhaps one-of-its-kind cabinet portrait of popular 1908 rookie New York Giants infielder Buck Herzog, as photographed by the Hall's Studio of New York. PSA has graded one example each of six N.Y. players from this remarkable set, with several offered in this auction. An extremely difficult cabinet issue, PSA has graded just six examples, all submitted by Love of the Game. Each presents as strong examples of the players themselves and as a time capsule of the John McGraw era.

This VG-EX 4 grade reflects a chip at its upper left matte border and foxing along its right edge. The central image retains its clear, optimistic outlook from a youngster who would build a 13-year career in the National League.

As a possibly unique issue, researchers used the cabinet production style and players included to set a 1908-09 date range, which makes this cabinet a likely rookie card for Buck Herzog.
