Snapshot photograph of American major leaguers during baseball's 1931 tour of Japan. Organized by former major leaguer, Herb Hunter, the tour featured major league All-Stars playing exhibition games across Japan over a two month span. Several major leaguers who participated in the tour are present in this image beside what appear to be Japanese dignitaries. Current and former major leaguers easily identifiable in the bottom row include: Lefty Grove and Rabbit Maranville (first and second from left), Mickey Cochrane (sixth from left), Al Simmons (third from right), Herb Hunter (fifth from right). Sportwriter and co-organizer of the tour, Fred Lieb, appears to be the man to the left of Herb Hunter. Known to have originated from the personal collection of Heinie Groh. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
