Original Type I news service photo featuring the iconic swing of Joseph Paul DiMaggio in 1936. DiMaggio, a rookie at the time this image was captured, would subsequently take the major leagues by storm, vaulting his Yankees to four consecutive World Series championships from 1936-1939 and nine titles overall during his storied 15-year career. Pictured at the Yankees spring training facility in St. Petersburg, FL., the Yankee Clipper appears well prior to his first major league game, which would not occur until May due to a foot injury suffered before the Yankees broke spring camp. One year later this very image of DiMaggio would serve as the source material for his popular 1937 Wheaties Series 7 card (shown for reference purposes and is not included). Typical handling wear in the form of gentle wrinkles and cracks in the emulsion are visible across surface of this example but are largely only apparent when photo is tilted towards a light source. Photo measures approx. 5" x 7.75" overall with multiple date and credit stampings applied to verso with both english and spanish text. Large credit stamping from International News Photos is clearly visible on verso beneath any additional markings, indicating they were the issuing service. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
