1934 Type I photo of a jovial Babe Ruth during his 40th birthday celebration. Ruth's 40th was reportedly a quiet affair, as he and his wife, Claire, read fan mail just prior to heading south for St. Petersburg, FL. After 14 seasons, 1934 would be the Babe's last in pinstripes before spending one season with the Boston Braves to close out his career. Fresh to the hobby 7" x 9" photo presents beautifully with clean emulsion surface and Ruth's portrait in sharp focus. Some dark staining appears on verso along the right and bottom edges, with original dated paper caption still affixed at the top.
