Great pairing of scarce Pittsburgh Pirates-related postcards from the Deaball Era, including one folding postcard and one standard size postcard. Both cards depict the inaugural game at Forbes Field on June 30, 1909. This is described on the standard size postcard as "Opening Day June 30, 1909" but it's important to note this was the opening of Forbes Field and not Opening Day for the 1909 Pirates season, which took place at Exposition Park that April 22. Cards included: 1) Forbes Field Folding Postcard: terrific panoramic view of the Pirates new home with text in the upper-left corner reading "Interior Forbes Field, Pittsburgh, PA." and text in the upper right corner providing a photo credit that reads "Photo & Copyright by Chautauqua Photographic Co. Pittsburgh, PA." A heavy fold bisects the card, which is postally unused. 2) Forbes Field Standard Size Postcard: beautiful view of Forbes field with printed text at the bottom providing the date, the occasion, and total attendance of 30338 rabbid fans. Some visible creasing is apparent and ink from another card's postmark is faintly visible towards the top. Card is postally used and bears a 1914 postmark from Pittsburgh, PA. Two early Forbes Field postcards total.
