Representing 2,048 lifetime home runs in a single image, this original Type I photograph features four of baseball's greatest sluggers as they posed for photographers sometime between 1929 and 1930. Presumably captured at Shibe Park in Philadelphia, the New York Yankees one-two punch of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig stand in their away flannels pose with fellow future Hall of Famers Jimmie Foxx and Al Simmons in their Philadelphia Athletics home whites. By this time the Yankees had secured World Series titles with both Ruth and Gehrig on the roster in 1927 and 1928 but Simmons and Foxx would turn the tables, capturing World Series championships of their own in 1929 and 1930, adding another American League pennant in 1931. Beautiful fresh to the hobby 8" x 10" example boasts a well focused depiction of the four superstars, with a visible but unobtrusive crease in the upper-left corner. Credit stamping from Wide World is visible at center of verso with some mild toning along the top edge. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
