c.1928 Type I photo of Jimmie Foxx and his manager, Connie Mack at the Philadelphia Athletics spring training facility in Fort Myers, FL. While PSA's LOA states this photo hails from c.1928, we feel it just as likely may originate from 1935, when Mack returned Foxx to catching duty after a 7-year hiatus. This was widely announced in newspapers throughout the country, and Foxx notably caught every spring game prior to the 1935 season, remaining the Athletics catcher until May 24 before returning to his usual role as an infielder. Photo presents a fantastic look at the Hall of Fame pair as Mack symbolically hands the Beast his catching gear as they pose for cameras, likely to help announce Foxx's transition back to the catcher's position. 8" x 10" photo with tiny pinholes visible at the corners and a few smudges on verso. Verso displays credit stamping from Wide World at the center, with a caption applied in blue at the top. A fresh to the hobby example hailing from the significant Durham Find of Historic Baseball Photography. Authenticated by PSA/DNA as a Type I photo and their full LOA is provided.
