Original Type I photo of Mickey Charles Mantle during Game 2 of the 1956 World Series at Ebbets Field. Only 24 at the time, Mantle had just completed one of the most legendary seasons of the modern era, achieving baseball's Triple Crown by leading the major leagues in in batting average (.353), home runs (52), and RBI's (130), before securing AL MVP honors and blasting three home runs in the 1956 World Series. 7" x 9" photo depicts Mantle at the plate subsequent to being called out on strikes by home plate umpire, Hank Soar. Tremendous overall condition with sharp corners and no signifigant blemishes worthy of note. Some discoloration appears by Mantle's left ankle, likely occurring during the process of developing this photo. Verso includes large and detailed original paper caption dated to 10/05/56, the day Game 2 of the 1956 World Series took place. Credit stamping from the New York Times has been applied at center of verso. Authenticated as a Type I example by PSA/DNA and their full LOA is provided.
