Rare 11" x 14" large format Type I news service photograph from Game 1 of the 1955 World Series at Yankee Stadium. A wide angle shot of The House that Ruth Built, taken as Dodgers right fielder Carl Furillo took Hall of Famer Whitey Ford deep in the second inning. A phenomenal, highly detailed image of Yankee Stadium's interior including the iconic frieze, with a reported crowd of 60,000+ taking in the action below. Jackie Robinson's famous steal of home occurred one inning prior and remains the last straight steal of home in a World Series game in the past 70 years. Pinholes appear at the corners with a chip missing to both bottom-right edge and top-right corner. Tape residue remains along three edges of verso, with two credit stamps from the New York Times applied at the center. A small caption has been added along the top edge, dated to 9/28/1955, which corresponds to the day Game 1 of the 1955 World Series took place. Authenticated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA and their full LOA is included.
