c.1916-20 original photograph of Chicago White Sox third baseman, Fred McMullin. Easily the most obscure of the eight men remembered as the "Black Sox" for conspiring to throw the 1919 World Series. McMullin's Type I photos remain in high demand from collectors due to their scarcity, with this large format Conlon among the most sought after. The presented 8" x 10" photo depicts McMullin in a classic batting pose during a sun-soaked day at the Polo Grounds. Unquestionably the finest example of this photo we have seen in the hobby (we are aware of a handful others), with just a touch of wear to the corners. Charles Conlon's personal credit stamping appears at center of verso, with his handwritten identifier of McMullin towards the top. A Baseball Magazine hologram, from the 1996 sale of their archive, has been placed at the bottom-right corner. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
