Superb c.1915 photo of knuckleballer, Eddie Cicotte, with the Chicago White Sox. 6.5" x 8.5" news service photo pictures the right-hander while warming up at the Polo Grounds years prior to the scandal that would embroil him and seven other teammates. Famously, Cicotte and his cadre of co-conspirators were banned from baseball for life in 1921 by then-commissioner of baseball, Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis, for their role in fixing the 1919 World Series. Cicotte is wonderfully posed in his dark Chicago away flannels, his likeness in sharp focus during a sunny afternoon in New York. Easily one of the finest original Cicotte photos in the hobby, with impressively clean emulsion surface virtually free of blemishes. Credit stamping from Paul Thompson's photo service has been applied to verso below a handwritten identifier of Cicotte at the top. Authenticated by PSA/DNA as a type I photo and their full LOA is provided.
