Original Type I photo depicting Walter Johnson managing his Cleveland Indians at Comiskey Park on May 30, 1935. Johnson, who piloted the Indians parts of three seasons from 1933-35, had dissension in his ranks at the time this image was captured, releasing third baseman Willie Kamm and catcher Glenn Myatt in response one week prior. According to paper caption on verso, Johnson was set to meet with Commissioner Landis the following day to discuss the unfortunate situation. Landis would ultimately deem Johnson "within his rights" to release the two fan favorites but the future Hall of Famer would himself be dismissed as Cleveland's manager just two months later. 7" x 9" photo displays some typical waviness along the left edge and a tiny visible crease appears in the upper-right corner. Toning is present to extreme edges of verso, with credit stamping from the Associated Press applied at the center. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
