As the hobby's demand for Babe Ruth cards and memorabilia continues to explode a rising tide lifts all boats. Where 1920s strip cards were once considered the domain of budget-conscious prewar collectors the value of high-grade examples particularly of Ruth are beginning to reflect a markedly increased demand. This particular example is sure to become a key item in any Ruth collection. While high-grade examples of Ruth's gum cards fetch extraordinary premiums high-grade examples of strip cards are generally much tougher to find. When it came to strip cards 1920s children were not very forgiving separating the cards from one another with jack knives pens teeth or any other sharp object they could find - or simply by tearing them apart! The result is that cleanly-trimmed examples with flawless surfaces are a rare occurrence in the hobby. This example is one such extraordinary card graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Population Data SGC Population: 23 total graded 2 at tihs level 0 higher* PSA Population: 34 total graded 1 at this level 1 higher *NOTE that SGC has also graded 14 additional W515 Ruths that have not been identified as W515-1 or W515-2. One of those was also graded NM/MT 88 with none higher. It is of course possible that that example was a W515-1 just like this one.
