I have one to sell!
Christy Mathewson is one of the most beloved and widely-collected players in baseball history. This a card from the Type 2 set of cards issued in packages of Coupon Cigarettes between 1914 and 1916 is an identical pose to Matty"s "Dark Cap" T206 card although it is much more difficult to find. Since the T213 Coupon cards were issued in Louisiana only the total population of cards available is much much less than that of the T206 issue and since T213 cards were treated with a surface gloss that is susceptible to chipping and cracking top condition examples are nearly impossible to find. Indeed between PSA and SGC just one example of a Type 2 Coupon card has been graded above a 6.This Mathewson is stunning with four square corners and beautiful gloss and color. It is very very improbable to find a Type 2 Coupon this strong. The card"s primary flaw is a single surface wrinkle beginning at the top left of the card just north of Matty"s cap and traversing across the card ending just above Matty"s ear on the right side of the card. The wrinkle does not detract from the card"s substantial eye appeal. Aside from that flaw the card boasts four square corners (with slight wear and some gloss chipping particularly on the two left ones). The back is extraordinarily bold and clean with very slight toning along the right edge.SGC has assigned a grade of VG to nine different Type 2 Mathewsons. However it is very very difficult to imagine one that looks nicer than this an extremely bold and strong example far more attractive than the (accurately) assigned grade.Population DataSGC Population: 32 total graded 9 at this level 3 higherPSA Population: 20 total graded 3 at this level 3 higher
