According to the affixed paper caption, Mack's likeness has been captured on July 29, 1929 as his Athletics were well on their way towards capturing the fourth World Series title for their longtime manager but first since 1913. Connie Mack's World Champion 1929 Philadelphia Athletics featured a roster stacked with Hall of Fame talent. With names like Mickey Cochrane, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, and Lefty Grove, the 1929 A's dominated the American League, finishing the regular season with a 104-46-1 overall record, ultimately defeating the Chicago Cubs in the World Series four-games-to-one. Connie Mack famously owned and managed his Athletics for 50 seasons from 1901-50, retiring at the distinguished age of 87. During his Athletics tenure Mack was responsible for nine American League pennants and five World Series titles (1910, 1911, 1913, 1929, 1930), while accumulating the most wins, losses and games managed in the history of baseball. The presented photograph of Mack is fresh to the hobby and has remained in storage for many decades until the time of this sale.
