Dan Casey was a left handed pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1886 through 1889. His best season came in 1887 when he won the ERA title and led the league in shutouts and ERA+ while going 28-13. Casey has three different
cards in
the N172 set. This
issue depicts him holding a ball in his throwing hand, while his gloveless right hand rests comfortably at his side.
Corners and edges are sharp, with some light edge chipping at the top right and along the bottom edge as well. The right border is thin and tapered top to bottom, but does still fully encapsulate the image within the canvas. A small stain near Casey's feet and some very light creasing are the only other noteworthy flaws, however, the image contrast is superior to what is often seen within the issue.
