Elmer Ellsworth Cleveland played 9 games for the New York Giants in 1888, but was somehow in the right place at the right time to end up with six different poses in the N172 set. Of the six, this horizontal "sliding" pose has the lowest graded population.

While photography wasn't quite advanced enough to capture motion at this point, Cleveland's "slide" is very clearly staged and posed, with his hat perfectly placed on the ground in front of him as he looks directly into the camera. Still, this is a very unique image in this set, and of this era, where the photographer and subject were trying something different. When looking at the card vertically, centering is east and north on the canvas, with the top border nearly missing. The printing is dark and the contrast is great, giving this card tremendous eye appeal on top of its unique image. The back has some paper remnants as well as loss from long-ago scrapbook removal, which explains the Authentic grade, but does not affect the eye appeal of the front in any way.  This is the only example of this pose graded by PSA.
