Michael J. Cody was primarily a Catcher (63 games) and Right Fielder (22 games) for the 1889 Des Moines Prohibitionists of the Western Association, but he also made appearances at 1B, 2B, 3B, and CF that season, exhibiting his true versatility. Cody has four different
cards in
the N172 set. This
issue depicts the catcher at the plate with a bat in his hands, ready to strike at the ball which is nearing the bat.
Centering is very slightly to the left on the canvas, and the image itself remains clean and beautiful, with outstanding contrast. Cody's dark uniform is broken up by the shiny belt he wears. The text is legible, but the back has some staining and shows signs of being removed from a scrapbook or
photo album, which explains the card's technical grade, but does not affect
the front. Another example of an N172 with a low technical grade due to flaws that do not impact the presentation of the card.
