Fantastic 1914 magic lantern slide featuring Shoeless Joe Jackson batting during spring camp at Athens, GA. A wonderful look at both Jackson's batting stance and lumber of choice as Naps players mill about in the background and a glove serves as an improvised home plate in the foreground. Black paper border surrounding the 3.25" x 4" translucent slide remains fully intact with glass surface remaining quite clean for it's age, presenting the central image beautifully. Slide originates from the estate of former Cleveland Plain Dealer staff photographer Frank W. Smith, who traveled with the Cleveland Naps to their spring facilities for many years during the 1910's. One of close to sixty glass magic lantern slides offered in our spring auction from the original photographer's collection. All slides from this collection have been professionally imaged and winning bidders will receive both the slides and a one-of-a-kind 8" x 10" archival quality print with their shipment.
