Very attractive midgrade example of a Mickey Mantle card from the 1961 Post Cereal issue. Distributed on the backs of cereal boxes, as
well as directly on sheets from Post, the cards are prone to a variety
of condition issues, as one would suspect. This offering includes the 1961
card #4 of Mantle graded EX 5 by SGC.
Post Cereal issues, due to their method of printing and
distribution, have a great deal of variations resulting in a set of
more than 350 cards for completion. The variations have worked against
the set in terms of generating collector interest as there's a lot to
learn and the distribution of the cards is difficult to understand. The
Mickey Mantle cards, however, are fairly easy to understand: Mantle is
the key to the 1961 and 1962 issues, as he is with most sets in which he
appears.
This hand cut example has straight edges with consistent borders. Registration issues with the image of Mickey keep this card from grading higher, though the very nature of these cards makes any high grade examples rare.
