Hunky Shaw got one at bat in his Major League career. He pinch hit in a
1908 game for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Shaw struck out, and never stepped
foot on a Major League diamond again. Here, the 24-year-old utility man
is depicted as a member of the Providence Grays of the Eastern League,
for whom he only played 30 games in 1909. The orange background provides
some brightness to the card, which fittingly features Shaw in his gray
Grays uniform. The card's technical grade can be explained by the exaggerated top border which includes the bottom half of (Bill) "Chappelle, Rochester" from the card above on the sheet. Rounded corners with some faint staining and light paper/color loss further explain the grade. The Piedmont back is centered far east on the canvas, with tobacco staining and foxing present. Still a very visually interesting example to own.
