Yet another prototype issue intended to be issued commercially as pinbacks Topps in 1967 produced a 24-"card" issue of San Francisco Giants players in addition to its standard 24-disc set. Like the standard set the SF Giants discs were never issued.The 1967 and 68 test disc sets are confusing to collectors and grading companies alike. In fact PSA has graded just 4 copies of any card from the SF Giants Discs set with SGC having graded 25. In this case PSA inaccurately labeled the item transposing this with the standard Marichal that we are also offering in the auction. However this is not the standard-issue Marichal.For the type card collector or Hall of Fame completist the 1967 and 68 disc test issues are extremely elusive; picking up an example of a Hall of Famer even more so (the SF Giants set contains just five Hall of Famers in Marichal McCovey Gaylord Perry and two separate examples of Willie Mays). Aesthetically strong the Marichal image is clean and bold with surface wear consistent with the issue (it is theorized that the proofs of the 1967 and 68 discs were actually discarded and subsequently saved from the trash by an eager collector). An outstanding and very rare example of a seldom-seen card type of a Hall of Famer.
