D311 Pacific Coast Biscuit Cards are not well known to the average collector but they paint a rich portrait of the Pacific Coast League circa 1911. A small explosion of issues in the 1909-12 time period serve to document the league but with the exception of the Obak issues, none so vividly as D311. SGC has graded 5 examples of this card, with this being the highest and sole 5 in their pop report (PSA has graded four, with a sole 4 their best assessment). John Raleigh went 1-10 over two brief seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals but was a 20 game winner with the Vernon Tigers in 1911. After the 1913 PCL season he retired to Lexington, Virginia.
The example here has great color, bordering on but not quite pastel and almost resembles an Impressionist painting. The corners are rounding slightly and the reverse is intact and bright. The overall appearance is quite fresh and appealing.
